DownTown Lake Charles Crawfish Festival, April 12-15

Crawfish Galore

The DownTown Lake Charles Crawfish Fest is being held April 12-15, 2012 in downtown Lake Charles. All ages are welcome as there will be activities for everyone. Bring a friend – or two – and your appetite. Each year, the annual Crawfish Fest exceeds festival goers’ expectations with the amount of food, genre of music and wealth of entertainment. This year, you can expect over 10,000 pounds of crawfish, a number of featured artists and the best food and fun at one of the largest indoor and outdoor festivals in Southwest Louisiana. The event will be held at the Lake Charles Civic Center Exhibition Hall at 900 Lakeshore Drive.

Since the DownTown Lake Charles Crawfish Fest is so well-known and draws in people from all over the area and beyond, there is much planning and preparation that goes into the event. While the majority of people come for the boiled crawfish, they live with memories to last a lifetime. And thanks to warmer temperatures and a rainy start to the spring season, the crawfish have been coming in plentiful quantities. Be prepared to let your taste buds soar.

Family Nite at the Rides

To start the event on Thursday is Family Nite at the Rides that starts at 4 pm. A Praise and Worship Experience follows after at 5 pm, and the night will wrap up with an outdoor family concert. Friday morning, wake up early to catch the Art Walk at the Fest that will feature works of art that any art enthusiast would appreciate. The events will continue throughout the weekend with a DownTown Lake Charles Crawfish Festival Queen’s Pageant, seminars and workshops about the Louisiana Crawfish industry, Cajun and Zydeco music workshops and information about the Creole culture that Louisiana is driven by.

A Weekend of Fun and Flavor

On Friday at 4 pm, the festival gates open and stay open until midnight. Enjoy carnival rides, live entertainment, food vendors and good company. If you can make it back the next day, be sure to come early for the parade that travels down the streets of downtown Lake Charles at 10 am. The gates will open back up at noon and stay open until midnight. On Sunday, the carnival will stay open until 8 pm when the festivities will come to a close. You can purchase wristbands at the gate, with admission ranging from $7 to $10, depending on the time that you come. Kids under 12 are free.
